Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund is offering award for women applicants of developing countries to pursue their degree in the USA and Canada. Applicants must enrolled (in residence) at an accredited U.S. or Canadian educational institution for the academic year 2013-14 and intends to be enrolled for the 2014-15 academic year. An MMMF grant covers only a portion of the total costs for an academic year. Therefore, applicants need to access other financial resources. Application deadline is January 15, 2014.

8. Demonstrates financial need and satisfactory academic performance
9. Is at least 25 years old by December 31, 2013
10. Is not related to a World Bank Group staff member or his/her spouse.

Scholarship Description: For students from developing countries who are currently studying in the United States or Canada, the MMMF awards grants of approximately $12,000 each; grants are not renewable. The MMMF also typically invites the recipients to Washington DC to participate in a three day Awards Program organized in their honor.

The Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management is offering scholarships for international students in Switzerland. Romanian Government Scholarships for International Students !!

Romanian Government Scholarships for International Students in Romania 2014/15 

Romanian Government is offering 85 scholarships for international students for undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Romania. Citizens of non EU countries are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to the candidates applying for: political and administrative sciences, education studies, Romanian culture and civilization, journalism, technical studies, oil and gas, agricultural studies, veterinary medicine, architecture and arts. The scholarships are granted for three levels of study: licenta, master and doctorate. the beneficiaries of the scholarships should study only in the Romanian language. The candidates who do not know Romanian are offered one supplementary preparatory year to study the language. The monthly amount is granted throughout the whole calendar year for full-time students of the 3rd cycle but not during the summer vacation for 1st  and 2nd cycle. Requests for other fields will also be taken into account. Citizens of non EU countries (irrespective of their country of residence) can apply for these scholarships. The application deadline is 15th February 2014.

Scholarship Description: Scholarships offered by the Romanian State to foreign citizens through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in keeping with Government Decision No 288/1993 for the 2014-2015 academic year. 85 scholarships for under- and post-graduate studies in Romania, by means of selection of application files organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) and the Ministry of National Education (MEN), in keeping with Romanian current legislation. In order to promote Romanian language and culture, the Ministry of National Education has decided that the beneficiaries of the scholarships should study only in the Romanian language. The candidates who do not know Romanian are offered one supplementary preparatory year to study the language. The students who declare that they know already Romanian language have to pass a language test organised by the competent  higher education institutions.
Number of award(s): 85 undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships are offered.
Duration of award(s):  The monthly amount mentioned above is granted to the students of the 1st (licenta) and 2nd (master) cycle throughout the whole academic year, the winter and spring vacation included, but not during the summer vacation. For full-time students of the 3rd cycle (doctorate), the monthly amount is granted throughout the whole calendar year.
What does it cover? The scholarship consists of:
-free-of-charge tuition,
-free-of-charge accommodation (depending on availability, accommodation will be offered free-of-charge in students hostels, in keeping with the higher education regulations),
-financial support – a monthly amount representing : the equivalent in Romanian currency of 65 EURO per month, for the under-graduate students (1st cycle), the equivalent in Romanian currency of 75 EURO per month, for post-graduate students (master degrees and specialization) 2nd cycle, the equivalent in Romanian currency of 85 EURO per month, for post graduate students (doctor’s degree) 3rd cycle.
-These scholarships do not cover food,  international and local transport. The candidates must be prepared to support personally any other additional expenses.
Selection criteria: The selection criteria are: the candidates’ competence (former scholar performances, mentioned in his/her study papers) and the chosen priority field of study. The Boards will approve the list of 85 accepted candidates and a waiting list, in case any selected candidates give up the scholarship.
Notification: The MAE board makes the first selection between 15 and 20 March 2014. By 1 April 2014, MAE sends to MEN the selected files. The MEN Board meets in April 2014 to make the final selection and will send list of successful candidates by 30 April 2014.  The selection results will be announced by 30 May 2014 to each diplomatic mission that submitted application files.

How to Apply: To get all necessary information about the scholarships (conditions, necessary documents, enrolment calendar) and to submit their application files, the candidates should apply directly to :
-the Romanian diplomatic missions accredited to the candidate’s country of origin or of residence or to
-the diplomatic mission of candidate’s state of origin accredited to Bucharest
-Application files submitted by post or directly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) or to the Ministry of National Education (MEN), as well as application files received after the announced deadline will not be taken into consideration.

International Research Scholarships in Catholic University Leuven in BELGIUM !!

BOF-SF Fellowships for Senior Researchers and Doctoral Students in Belgium, 2014


Catholic University Leuven is offering fellowships for senior researchers in Belgium. Candidates must not have been active at KU Leuven within a period of five years preceding the date of application, regardless of the source of income during that period. The duration of the SF-fellowship is one year and is basically not renewable. The application (including a renewal application) must be done through an electronic application form available through GeDOC online. Application should be submitted till March 27, 2014.

Study Subject (s): Fellowships are provided for one year in applicant’s research areas.
Course Level: The fellowships are available for pursuing research program.
Scholarship Provider: Catholic University Leuven, Belgium

Eligibility: -Candidates must have obtained a doctorate from a university other than KU Leuven and must preferably have an international profile.
-Candidates must have publicly defended their first PhD at least 8 years before the official submission date. Candidates should preferably hold a permanent position at another university or research institution.
-In order to be taken into consideration, the candidate must be available on a full-time basis.
-Candidates must not have been active at KU Leuven within a period of five years preceding the date of application, regardless of the source of income during that period. If candidates did work at KU Leuven during this period, this time (interruptions included) will be deducted from the maximum total duration of 36 months.
Applicants and their candidates are requested to seek parallel external funding. American candidates can consider Fulbright and CRB fellowships. European researchers can rely on Marie Curie and ERG grants from the EU, NATO grants, von Humboldt grants, GOS grants, IWT grants, DWTC grants, etc. If a parallel scholarship were to be allocated which is lower than the BOF allocation, the Special Research Fund can be requested to match that amount. The latter does not apply to Fulbright fellowships.
Scholarship Open for International Students: International applicants can apply for the fellowships.

Scholarship Description: SF fellowships are aimed at senior non-KU Leuven researchers (regardless of their nationality) who have publicly defended their doctoral thesis at least 8 years before the official submission date. As a general rule, fellows should bring in new knowledge and expertise that is lacking, insufficiently developed or that can be extended within the research group of the applicant(s). For all fellowships, the expected input must go beyond the mere provision of labour.

Duration of award(s): SF fellowships are granted for a maximum of 12 months and are, in principle, not extendable. In exceptional cases with special motivation an extension of up to 12 months is possible.
-Applications for short term fellowships (1 to 3 months) and summer fellowships are only possible if the supervisor can provide adequate justification.
-Sequential fellowships or mandates of a different type are possible, but the total stay at  KU Leuven may not exceed 36 months within a period of five years.
-Fellowships must be commenced within a period of 12 months following the date of the official allocation. Fellowships may be interrupted upon request, but the total duration of the interruptions (including deferral) may not exceed two years.
-As this is an allocation in the name of the candidate, the Research Co-ordination Office must be notified if the mandate is discontinued.
What does it cover? -Fellows will be paid by means of a grant, a salary or expenses. The level of the grant, salary or expenses is determined in accordance with the level of the fellow and the percentage of remuneration in the fellow’s own institution. The distinction between a grant or a salary is made on the basis of the statutory regulations for grants.
-A budget to reimburse insurance costs will be provided for all fellows.
-For all fellows, compensation for travel expenses will be made up to a maximum of €650 for European countries and a maximum of €1000 for non-European countries. Travel expenses will be reimbursed based on proof of expenditure.
Selection Criteria: The following criteria is used for the evaluation of an SF-application (the applicant’s letter is important for both criteria):
-the scientific esteem of the candidate, as evident from his/her curriculum vitae and academic bibliography;
-the expected added benefit of the candidate, specifically for the research of the applicant(s).

-a description of the research project and work plan;
