Scholarship Description: The project, funded by the DFG project deals with the Investigating a novel method localized material deposition from the gas phase. In contrast to traditional methods, a vacuum deposition method is directed to be examined, which supports a spatially resolved attachment of primary particles, at elevated pressure and allows material throughput and dynamic adjustment of the resulting nanostructures. In the dynamic adjustment will be examined first and shown that an ortaufgelöstes adjusting the 3D structure in a first material composition and in a second step, is also possible. The ergründenden to physical laws are based on the interaction between gas ions, charged nanoparticles and a programmable substrate.
The project includes aspects of aerosol science, plasma physics, and gas-discharge processes. Recognizes its structure consists of (i) a source module (material synthesis, nanoparticle source, gas ion source) and (ii) a material separation module (deposition chamber including programmable substrate). Please indicate in your application out if you have knowledge in the production or the localized deposition of nanoparticles or nanostructures. The long-term goal is the realization of a scalable deposition process, which should make it possible to produce novel nanostructured materials on a surface. During the term of the candidate should demonstrate the applicability of the method. What does it cover? A minimum of 15 scholarships are available for the 2014-2015 session with each award worth £2,000 per year. Awards are tenable for the duration of the programme of study.
Selection Criteria: The scholarships are competitive and awarded broadly on the basis of academic merit.
Notification: A University of Edinburgh Selection Committee will meet in May 2014 to select the scholarship holders. The winners of the scholarship will be announced in late May 2014.

What is Erasmus Mundus?
Erasmus Mundus is a European Union cooperation and mobility programme in the field of higher education. It aims to promote the European Union worldwide as a centre of excellence for learning and education.

Brief Description
A total of about 11,000 Erasmus Mundus scholarships are awarded. Graduates taking part in one of the selected Erasmus Mundus Master’s degree course programmes or academics teaching in one of the programmes can apply. Erasmus Mundus is intended both for nationals of non-EU countries doing a European Master’s course and for EU citizens, who will spend up to 3 months studying at a partner university in a third country.

Scholarship Funding
The funding is provided for the whole term of the Master’s course. While participants from non-EU countries spend their whole study visit at one of the selected Erasmus Mundus courses, participants from EU countries will generally only be financed for a 3-month visit to an institution in a third country.
